mammoth networks signs 40th wholesale dsl partner

Mammoth Networks confirmed it has signed its 40th Partner to the company's wholesale DSL platform. Mammoth provides access to the company's private network, allowing Partners to sell Digital Subscriber Line to End Users without the expenses of operating a network.

The company's success has relied on providing wholesale DSL while leaving control of the End User's DSL line to the Partner. Mammoth began offering services in March of this year with little fanfare, allowing news to spread word-of-mouth through a network of agents.

"This week has been exciting for us," says Brian Worthen, who oversees product development at Mammoth. "When we drew up this 'Mammoth' plan, we anticipated this growth over a two year period. It turned out we would achieve this in nine months."

Worthen went on to explain that Mammoth is operated as a subsidiary to Visionary Communications, a company that has achieved success in the Rocky Mountain region for more than a decade. As a result, Mammoth has the stability of operating as part of a larger company, and does not have the pressures of a startup organization.

Mammoth offers wholesale access to their network in nine Western states, and covers fourteen telco boundaries, called LATAs. The company refers to itself as a Provider's Provider - a company that enables Internet Service Providers to sell internet services without their own network. This has allowed Mammoth's Partners to deliver DSL, frame relay, and other data circuits outside the Partner's coverage area.

Traditionally, if an Internet Service Provider wanted to provide coverage in another LATA, they had to provision fiber from the telephone company in the new coverage area. The Provider then had to tie that fiber back to their network. Those expenses made it difficult for a Provider to justify expansion into new markets outside their original coverage area. The Provider was forced to incur an up-front and ongoing expense, while building their business one customer at a time. With Mammoth, a Partner can be profitable with a small amount of End Users.

Mammoth Networks is an aggregator of data services serving nine Western states. Mammoth enables its Partners by erasing the invisible lines of the telecommunications structure, and leveling the playing field for service providers. The privately-held company is based in Gillette, Wyoming.
